Overrun

Overrun is a wearable that provides a runner with live feedback to help prevent injuries.

Fifty percent of running injuries are all formed in the longer-term from continuous exposure to high forces being applied to the body from running on solid surfaces. Humans have evolved to run on soft ground instead of hard paved roads. It is important to reduce the amount of pressure applied whilst running and ensure that the weight of the body spreads evenly across the foot.

Overrun adds to the market a wireless wearable that provides live feedback of the data collected from the insole enabling users to visualise and understand what happens to their feet when they run and adjust their gait to ensure injury is minimised by spreading the weight evenly across both feet.

THE PROCESS
To be able to adjust pressure whilst running runners need two systems. One, that is able to detect and measure the forces applied on the foot. The other, able to display those forces as data live to the user so that adjustments can be made whilst running. Research on the performance of soft shoes and orthotics suggest cushioning does little to reduce impact, as yhe impact on runners' legs from running can be up to twelve times their body weight.

The first prototype of the glasses included the display on the glasses themselves. However, user testing revealed issues with focus. Vlod then developed a clip-on for glasses. The final design has been made round and symmetrical so that the product can be flipped over on either side of the glasses frames. This is achieved with modular attachment straps that come on and off the device with magnets and secure to the frame with Velcro or rubber strap.
